mayBe is no longer active

We met in Oxford's parks and cafés, our own homes and borrowed chapels. You'd have been really welcome to join us at any of our getting togethers.

But we are no longer active, after an amazing 18 or so years. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in whatever way; you have been a blessing. Seasons change and things die off, go to ground and become nourishment for future growth. We hope this is what mayBe will be going forward: compost for wonderful new communities and spiritual growth.

mayBe meets again!

A few of us gathered together for the first time in months. We brought picnics and tuned into the Greenbelt Sunday Worship online.

This year's Greenbelt theme is Wild at Home. The reading was the parable of the great banquet from Luke 14. A place where the outsiders, the forgotten, the overlooked, the poor, the marginalised are welcome and where an unexpected banquet takes place. We were all encouraged to put our dreams on paper. To send them in to be made into one large creative piece bringing everyone's dreams together.

It was so good to be in each other's company again. And we are planning to meet for picnic lunch and some time for reflection at the Martin's again on Peace Sunday 20th September.

In attempt to re-establish a ryhthm, mayBe aim to meet up monthly at Florence Park (near band stand) 10.30am every 3rd Sunday of the month. You, yes you, inquisitive website stumbler, would be very welcome to come along to any of our inclusive gatherings - please get in touch just in case plans change at the last minute. The default plan will be to use a liturgy from the Iona community's Wee Worship books and then have a play/coffee in the park, but we hope to embellish this structure as anyone is able to offer something more; we encourage eachother to bring what they can.

Tentative dates:

14 July (not 13th! oops!) - Sam has invited some visitors from Germany to join us
18 August
22 September (not the third sunday!)
20 October - Tilly to lead
17 November

Then later in the year we have our retreat weekend booked in 29 November to 1 December.

Sunday 6 Jan - we met up in Botley park for epiphany.
Sun 24 Feb 10:30am - Meet in Botley Park for one of our small and short informal gatherings including some songs, prayers, thoughts, playing and café visit. Thanks Sophie for organising!
Sun 17 March, from 10:30 was Sat 6 March - bigger day together in the planning.
Evening bookclub + night prayer, reading The Sacred Enneagram, with discussions at Tilly & Richard's (or via Skype) on Wednesdays: 27 March, 24 April, 22 May, 19 June, 17 July.
Sun 7 April 10:30am Florence Park (TBC) for short worship outside.
Looking ahead to our retreat in November, we have Liz West booked to do an enneagram workshop

Sunday 11 Nov is 100 years since the armistice to end all wars... We plan to join the Quakers in silent witness on St. Giles before wondering up for a gathering at Norham Gardens.

Thurs 13 Dec night prayer gathering in Chalgrove at Sam n Dave's
Sat 22 Dec, 2:30 to 5pm at the Coach House in Headington. (Holy Trinity's Church Hall) There will be merriment, song, biblical creativity, yuletide tucker and a sad goodbye to those lovely Scotland bound people.

Autumn 2017: hope, and a new ryhthm

We're experimenting with a new rhythm following a community conversation in September. Months will now look like this:

The first Monday of every month, Rich & Tracey will host a quiet evening prayer at their home in East Oxford, 8:30pm for about an hour.
Every second Sunday we'll meet up all together somewhere, which could be a park, a cafe or someone's house. Tilly & Richard have offered to host every other month. We're hoping to invite people along to listen to their journey stories.
The third Friday in the month, Sam is leading an evening liturgy followed by pub visit. We have booked Bethlehem Chapel (it's between Cowley and Iffley Road off St. Mary's rd - call ahead if you'd like to join us and we'll make sure you're met, it's hard to find!) and we'll move on to the Rusty Bicycle after.
The fourth Sunday of the month is the go-to date for anyone who wants to lead something.

Also, Tom has set up a WhatsApp group and will be sending round little proverbial pearls each week. Sam has booked our annual get-away weekend for 1-3 December, and is also interested in leading some practical theology sessions after Christmas.

We're hoping to infuse "hope" as a theme, energy and practice.

This year joined by Rhythmicity for some drumming and percussion as worship sessions (should be fun – bring ear defenders for anyone very sensitive to noise) and Godly Play with Andrea along with the usual time outside, walk, campfire, creativity, evening chill-out, fun, food and mayhem!

This month we're thinking about Jesus' appearances and making kites to remember his ascension - a mayBe tradition!

Sat 13 May from 11am // kite making, shared lunch and worship liturgy at the Stricklands', followed by walk in Shotover with kites, weather permitting!
Sat 20 May 11am // short outdoor liturgy in Bury Knowle park, followed by café.
Thurs 25 May Ascension day // community meal at the Lotts
Sunday 4th - Pentecost Sunday - Cherwell centre on Norham Gardens 10.30am -3pm big Sunday with Lianne Smith helping us explore together... bring lunch to share.
Thursday 15th community meal at Team Richards 8pm.
Friday 23rd soup and soul - venue TBC
